Its time to get serious.
One problem with me is.. I am way too opinionated for my own good. I need to express my views on anything and everything. So here's today's view..
I was watching todays episode of Satyamev Jayate hosted by the ever illustrious Aamir Khan.
It was about marriage and how couples in love just face a lot of problems from society.
Indian society is screwed up. That is a fact. We are all so worried about what the neighbour would say to realise that we are eating away at our own happiness.
Ours is a society that shuns young love but will watch lusty Bollywood movies with wide eyes and drooling mouths. Hypocritical.
Is love bad? Why does society treat it as a crime?
People cant conveniently fall in love with a person from the same caste and religion. Love knows no boundaries. Disney has been emphasising this point from 1937. If a mermaid can fall in love with a human, anythings possible.
So what if shes poor? So what if hes not from the same religion? So what if shes older? the family is not accepting it? Is the family gonna live with the couple? How do you know that the person you choose would be a good person?
I do agree that eloping is never the option. You cant snub your parents who have loved you from day one for a person who has newly arrived into your life. Parents love you and want the best for you. but a little discussion would help.
But it does not give one a right to punish the couple in question. Much less to murder them brutally. Indian law clearly states that two adults in mutual agreement can marry.
And yet we see child marriage accepted by society.
Is tradition separate from the Law? Do you disregard the law to maintain tradition? Has it ever occurred to you that tradition could be wrong and that to progress, changing it could be the only option?
I never understood the idea of arranged marriage. Does it make sense to marry and live your life with a man whom you cannot trust since you ve met him for the first time, rather than a man you have known, loved and trusted for years? But arranged marriages are accepted by society. and expected.
Sometimes an unaccepted marriage is the most prosperous. And the guy you thought was a perfect choice for your daughter could turn out to be a real douchebag.
Its sick. Not all love is sex-lust. Why is that the first thought in your head?
Broaden your minds people. The new generation seems to be more mature than you are.
Rant over.
