The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

This is book by John Boyne is one of the most touching ones I've read. It takes place in Aushwitz,,  (which the main character, a 9 year old boy named Bruno, poignantly pronounces as Out-With) during the Second World War ,where Bruno meets a Jew named Shmuel. The boys become fast friends, and the story tells of the conversations they have, sitting on opposite sides of the concentration camp fence. It speaks of innocence, and childish morals, which everyone should have but don't. It relates little tales of Nazi Germany, how his father , The Commandant moves them from Berlin to "Out-With" after a visit by "The Fury" and Eva Braun.
It is so sad, what happens in the end is both painful and dramatically ironic, given his fathers position, but thinking back on it, it seems that was the only appropriate ending.
A must read, whatever you age may be.
